Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream Protection Against Penetrating Damp – The colourless, breathable, water-repellent cream stormdry is often used on damp walls to prevent penetrating damp. It’s a white cream that will turn completely transparent, it is breathable, a moisture-resistant cream for brick, concrete, and stone walls that comes in the form of a thickly applied cream that’s applied with a roller or brush.
Before the water-repellent barrier becomes permanent, Stormdry must be applied in a single coat to the wall surface and will permeate deeply before curing to form a BBA approved 25-year waterproofing barrier. The following are some of the most common methods for using Stormdry:
- Protecting against penetrating damp
- Improving masonry’s thermal resistance by ensuring it is dry – verified by the Energy Saving Trust
- Preventing moisture from reaching cavity wall insulation and increasing its effectiveness
- Increasing the flood resistance of masonry structures
Increasing the thermal efficiency of masonry walls
It is not always possible to improve the thermal resistance of walls by using traditional insulation, especially in older structures. Single-skin walls are a common construction technique in the UK, making them unsuitable for cavity wall insulation. Installing interior insulation is time-consuming and takes up precious living space, while externally applied insulation is often unsightly.
Fortunately, Stormdry has a solution. It is well-known that porous masonry materials like brick, stone, concrete, and mortar become less insulating when they are damp. Stormdry works by preventing the masonry from absorbing water, allowing it to retain its insulation properties all year.
Breathable and Long Lasting
Water repellent silicone is used in the construction of Stormdry to create a water-repellent silicone matrix around the pores of the masonry. It works by lining the pores rather than obstructing them, the masonry is allowed to breathe and does not suffer from increased frost damage.
Stormdry is UV-resistant and resistant to other types of deterioration, resulting in a 20-to-30-year lifespan.
Deeply Penetrating Cream
The deeper penetration of Stormdry into masonry that enables it to resist greater amounts of moisture is also evident in its formulation. Traditional liquid-applied masonry water repellents, on the other hand, are unable to penetrate as far into masonry as stromdry does.
It should be mentioned that, even if you have a minor crack, Stormdry must be applied to it. Mortar joints may require repointing with a sand/cement or sand/lime combination that includes Stormdry Repointing Additive.
Masonry Flood Resistance Improvement
As part of a flood resilience system, Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream can be used with Stormdry Repointing Additive No.2 and Stormdry FD-Coat Flood Defence Coating to increase the flood resistance of masonry.
The effectiveness of stormdry on concrete, mortar, brick, and sandstone has been verified to BS EN ISO 15148:2002 (E), which attests to its efficiency.
When it comes to Stormdry’s ability to permeate masonry, it takes between two and two-and-a-half months for a visible “beading effect” to appear after rain strikes the wall. However, after just 12 hours, Stormdry is waterproof.
